History of Dips
Dips have been around for thousands of years. Some of the first dips were hummus and olive oil. One of the earliest dips to become popular was Greek tzatziki, which is made with yogurt, cucumbers, garlic, salt, and olive oil.
Dips for chips became popular in the 1950s. This was due to changes in entertaining styles in the suburbs and a Lipton advertising campaign. The campaign encouraged people to combine Lipton's dehydrated onion soup mix with cream cheese or sour cream and serve it with potato chips.
